The Munich MVV Transit System is extensive, clean, safe, reliable and affordable. Payment is done on the honor system. It ’s a 40 € fine if you are caught riding without a ticket. Ticket vending machines are always upstairs near the entrances to the tracks. Don´t forget to validate your ticket at the little stamping machine before you get on the escalator to go downstairs or when you get on buses or trams. PAYING: Day Tickets (Tageskarten) are the best way to pay. For a single person, the Tageskart costs just 4.50 € for the inner city and 9 € for the entire system. When travelling with at least one friend, get the Tagespartner-Karte for just 8 € for the inner city and 16 € for the entire system, but note that this ticket is good for up to five persons. These tickets allow for unlimited travel on all trains, trams and buses from the time validated until 6:00 am the next day. I can´t squeez all the options to pay into this small space, but they would only under certain circumstances be cheaper than the Tageskarten.
The Munich Welcome Card, sold at the Tourist Office, costs just a little more than a Tageskarte, serves the same purpose, but also comes with a long list of museums and restaurants that offer discounts with the card. If you use it only once it will have been more than worth the extra 1.50 € for the single Tageskarte or 2.00 € for the Tagespartner-Karte. |
